| Schools may get authority to open before Labor Day To get a waiver, school districts must have been closed an average of eight to 10 days per year during any five of the last 10 years because of weather or other emergency situations. According to the department, 86 public school districts in Virginia have the waiver and already start before Labor Day.

| Who put groundhogs in charge of the weather? Since then, there have been other, lesser known groundhogs consulted in Staten Island, New York, Lilburn, Georgia, and French Creek, West Virginia. As I reported in this space in 2016, groundhogs, no matter where they live, usually get the weather prediction wrong more times than they get it right.
